Umbra Legal

Privacy Policy & Terms Overview

Effective date: March 17, 2026. This page explains how Umbra collects, uses, stores, and protects information when you interact with our website and services.

Comments

When visitors submit comments, we collect the form details, IP address, and browser user-agent information to help identify spam and abuse.

If Gravatar is used, a hashed version of your email address may be sent to that service to check whether an avatar exists. Gravatar’s privacy notice is available at automattic.com/privacy.

Media Uploads

If you upload images, avoid files containing embedded location metadata (EXIF GPS). Other visitors may be able to download and extract that location data from published images.

Cookies

  • If you leave a comment, you may opt to save your name, email, and website in cookies for convenience. These can persist for up to one year.
  • A temporary cookie may be set on the login page to test cookie support. It contains no personal data and is removed when you close your browser.
  • When you sign in, cookies may store login session and display settings. Login cookies typically last two days; display preferences may last up to one year.
  • If “Remember Me” is selected, your login session may remain active for up to two weeks.
  • Editing or publishing content may place an additional cookie that only stores a post ID reference and expires after one day.

Embedded Content From Other Sites

Some pages may include embedded content (for example videos, images, or articles). Embedded content from third-party websites behaves as if you visited that website directly.

Those third parties may collect data, set cookies, use tracking tools, and monitor your interaction with their embedded content, including when you are logged into their services.

Microsoft Clarity & Advertising Analytics

Umbra may use Microsoft Clarity and Microsoft Advertising to understand on-site behavior through heatmaps, session interactions, and usage trends. This helps improve site UX, security, and campaign performance.

These tools can rely on first-party and third-party cookies or similar technologies. Review Microsoft’s privacy practices here: privacy.microsoft.com.

Data Sharing

If you request a password reset, the reset email can include the originating IP address for account security verification.

Data Retention

Comments and their metadata may be retained indefinitely to support moderation workflows and faster follow-up approvals.

For registered accounts (if enabled), profile details are stored until updated or deleted, except for usernames that may remain fixed for system integrity.

Your Rights

If you have an account or have submitted comments, you may request an exported copy of personal data Umbra holds about you. You may also request deletion of personal data, excluding records we must keep for legal, security, or administrative obligations.

Where Data Is Sent

Visitor submissions may be processed by automated anti-spam and security systems.
